Jan

It’s January!  It’s 2024!  And I am not as motivated as I would like to be.  As I said when I posted the January Family Activity Calendar, I wasn’t fully ready to start the new year on January 1st.  I needed a few days to reflect on the past month and past year as well as look ahead to what I want to accomplish in this next year.  I have spoken and taught and heard and read the word “Goals” so many times it is starting to lose its appeal which is not great when you are a wellness coach trying to help people change habits to improve their health and lives.

This year I tried something different.  Instead of focusing on goals, I focused on priorities first. Maybe this is something all of you do, but for me it was a bit of a different way of looking at things.  It gave me more of a big picture view that I could then narrow down.  There are plenty of things I want to do and plenty of goals I could set.  At this stage of my life, which is a stage of transition, I needed to really narrow down what I need most and what matters to me most. I also scrapped setting a goal for the year and instead focused on how those priorities are going to play out in my life.  This was really a blend of goal-setting strategies from a couple of organizing/planning people I follow that I have modified to make my own.

Also, I am taking my monthly themes from my new Happy Planner that just so happened to come with perfectly timed statements for each month on the divider pages.  So far, this is working.  If at some point during the year I decide that I need to shift my monthly theme, I can do that.  There is nothing tying me to any one idea or theme.

Finally, I took an idea from the Anchored Woman website.  She outlined her entire year with themes, ideas for workshops, and other monthly plans.  With the way my brain is working lately, this just may be a game changer for me.  Having a clear path and plans for blog posts and monthly webinars/classes means I don’t have to spend time deciding what to do.  It is already planned out.

So why is all of this so important? Because without it I feel scattered and not sure of where I am going or what I am doing.  This was pretty much how I felt the last several months so bringing it in has helped me gain clarity over what I want to do.

And what I really want to do is help all of you!  I want to encourage you, inspire you, problem-solve with you, and help you mold yourself into the best person you can be. The goal-setting format I use for anything wellness-related hasn’t changed.  In fact, we are going to dig into that more next week with a webinar that I have been working on for quite a while. I am very excited to finally get this launched and even more excited about dedicating time in my daily schedule to work on it and stop procrastinating.

I will post my Year on the Edge monthly plan here so you know what to look forward to.

And in conclusion, my 2024 Yearly theme is “I Can Make Things Happen.”

Peace from The Edge,

Julia
